Shopping Washingtonian Magazine’s Shopping Section

Publié le 3 Février 2018

In the hugely popular, decades-established Washingtonian Magazine, marketed to mid- to upper-affluence audiences in and around the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region, among the main focuses of coverage and content-creation is the evergreen subject of shopping.

For many, shopping is a joy. Shopping does not necessarily imply purchasing, but it connotes searching, seeking, discovering. Thankfully for those so inclined, the DC area (including Northern Virginia and the Maryland suburbs) is rich with upscale shopping centers and classic independent retail establishments.

As such, Washingtonian makes a point to elucidate through its content the myriad of shopping opportunities – shoppertunities - available to consumers around DC. The magazine puts out an annual Best Places to Shop list (see the 2017 edition at washingtonian.com/2017/06/07/the-best-places-to-shop-in-washington-dc) and incorporates the subject into its overall Best Of coverage (see this 2016 piece on Best Eats, Shops & Things to Do at washingtonian.com/2016/06/06/best-places-to-eat-shop-things-to-do-in-washington-dc). The publication also produces individual stories (examples at washingtonian.com/2014/01/09/5-things-i-cant-live-without-bluemercury-cofounder-barry-beck/ and washingtonian.com/2017/12/14/best-moisturizing-products-to-protect-your-skin-in-cold-dry-winter-weather) to highlight a few of the products one might be lucky enough to find when one goes on one of one’s shopping excursions.

Shopping is one of the joys of modern life, made possible by the fortunate happenstance of healthy infrastructure, a viable economy and endless innovation toward improving people’s lives. This is as true in Washington as anywhere else folks appreciate fine things and the chance to obtain them.
